Sushi Making Class in Montreal This Friday, April 26th, 2013

sushi-making-class-5

I’m giving another sushi-making class this Friday from 6:30pm-9:30pm. We’ll do a mix of lobster nigiri, real seasonal snow crab California rolls, inside-out rolls, rainbow rolls, caterpillar rolls, handrolls and I’ll try to find some sustainable fish to do sashimi. Come learn to make perfect seasoned sushi rice, slice like a master and roll like a pro – everything from soaking the rice to the ins and outs of wasabi and homemade pickled ginger.

Cost: $35 per person, or $40 with Wakatake Junmai Dai Gingo sake (you can’t get it here. I brought it back from my last trip to Seattle and the excellent Sake Nomi specialty shop there). You’ll be stuffed AND educated!

Location: Point St-Charles, near metro Charlevoix. I’ll give my address when you register.

How to register: Email me at watson dot amie at gmail dot com.

Here are some photos for inspiration.

Actic char and avocado maki, vegetarian cucumber and avocado maki, inside-out and outside-in Nordic shrimp California rolls, rainbow rolls draped in wild char, and everything-but-the-kitchen-sink handrolls.

Lobster nigiri, Nordic shrimp, avocado and cucumber maki, and Cardiff nigiri (because the fishmonger told me it was sustainable. It’s not. If any poissonerie had better selection, prices and quality than La Mer and cleaned your fish at no extra charge, I’d go there instead because the service surrounding sustainable fish is spotty. Wild Atlantic salmon? The guy tried to convince me the sign was right. It was not. He removed it…)
