Food Writing for the Montreal Gazette Weekend Life

June 29, 2019 MissWattson Leave a Comment

Editor Lucinda Chodan of the Montreal Gazette announced in today’s Weekend Life section that three new food writers would be coming Saturday section, taking over the role left open by former restaurant reviewer Lesley Chesterman.

I’m thrilled to be one of those writers! Rather than writing reviews, I’ll be doing food features every couple of weeks. For my first story, I covered the story of West Island sushi: why there are so many (more than 18!) in the same area and why they’re so popular with West Islanders.

My new colleagues Joanna Fox and Isa Tousignant covered an Italian restaurant in Villeray and five new ice cream shops respectively (I might pop over to the Point St-Charles one, today for the first time – thanks for the heads up, Isa).

From now on, you’ll see my stories in the paper and online with the Gazette, as us new writers trade off on weeks. Coming up next week, I speak with some of the city’s most well-known restaurant owners about opening second and third places. It’s a business-focused story that gets behind your plate of local, sustainable beef agnolotti or rack of lamb.

Follow me at the Montreal Gazette! It’s going to be a fun ride.
