Don’t Cook That Pepper!

November 25, 2011 Leave a Comment

Did you see that green/red pepper in the Lufa Farms Fresh Basket this week? The short, sort of stunted-looking one? It’s not stunted. It’s just as it should be. All that big pepper taste compressed into one little pepper. I bit into it like an apple and it crunched. It crunched, for goodness sake! It doesn’t get fresher than that. Please don’t cook these peppers. And please don’t eat them with anything else. They’re perfect on their own – a little sweet and completely refreshing.

Compared to other crunch-able things, this is how I list them from best to worst:

1. Red/green European pepper

2. Granola

3. Biscotti

4. Apples

5. Toast (give me a break. I’m having trouble with gluten. Toast is a luxury)

…

Infitini + 6. Rice cakes

Stuff NOT to do with these peppers includes pickling them whether or not your name is Peter, roasting them, sautéing them, or dehydrating and reducing them to a powder. I only encourage eating them raw. As opposed to my anti-gymnastics teacher who believes I should not be eating anything raw right now as my body has to work too hard to heat food up before digesting it. Well I’ve got news for you, body: It’s time you start picking up the slack, because whether I eat hot things or not, my body is awfully cold, and no amount of digestion is creating the heat I need to make me feel as though life isn’t being sucked out of me one degree at a time.

So until then I’m going to eat what makes me happy and right now that’s crunchy peppers. It’s the little things, after all…

Cucumbers, Peppers, Zucchini, Tomatoes & Eggplants, Everything Else European peppers, lufa farms, lufa farms fresh basket, red peppers, what to do with red peppers
