Cooking Classes in St-Henri Help Gives Mothers a New Start

April 30, 2015 Leave a Comment

cfadThis is the multimedia article I helped create this year for my Graduate Degree in Journalism at Concordia University. It profiles the women who participate in cooking classes at CFAD, a “reinsertion” program for mothers who have had run-ins with the justice system.

The project introduces you to CFAD director Agnès Billa, chef Melissa Simard and participants Natasha Razouk, Sylvie Godin and Agathe Melançon through videos, photo galleries and quotes. It also presents the financial and economic statistics surrounding the federal and provincial prison systems as well as alternative programs like this one, which is timely in light of the recent acceptance of the Supreme Court of Canada to hear an appeal regarding mandatory minimum sentencing in drug offences.

And get the recipe for the rustic plum tarts the women made at last month’s class.

Read it here: https://amiewatson.atavist.com/cfadmontreal

And this is the link to the CBC version. There are a few differences, but the story is the same.
