Cantaloupe in the Lufa Farms Fresh Basket

August 24, 2011 MissWattson Leave a Comment

I’ve eaten 4 cantaloupes in the past week and a half. That’s an average of just under half a cantaloupe per day. Well, no, that’s a lie, because I froze 1 1/2 of them in chunks for later cantaloupe enjoyment. Except 3 of the 4 cantaloupes were just so-so cantaloupes. But the fourth, my Lufa Farms Fresh Basket cantaloupe, was wonderful, and it made me remember how good a cantaloupe can be.

Amazing. It can be amazing. I can’t give a recipe for cantaloupe this week because I’ll admit I ate this cantaloupe with a spoon. Prosciutto – the traditional pairing – would have only masked the flavour. Yes, this cantaloupe would have been amazing blended in smoothies, puréed soups, or even added to chicken or vegetable stir-fries for a sweet bite, but those options seemed like a sin. When you can smell the cantaloupe in the next room, it’s time to cut open and scoop out the sweet, sweet flesh.

My only regret is that I have no more cantaloupe. My stomach is happy, but my tomorrow will be a little sadder. Cross my fingers for another cantaloupe in this week’s basket, I suppose.
